Talking Points: Questions You May Get & Possible Answers: A Quick Reference to Guidance Document for Media Response (2015)
This position paper was developed as part of an ongoing effort to communicate the values and perspectives driving the work of the Prevention and Education Committee (PEC) of Oregon SATF. When an incident of sexual violence occurs, often we, as statewide experts and policy makers, are asked to respond. It is critical for us to understand the importance of framing the conversation, and having the tools to feel confident doing so. When we influence the way the media talks about sexual violence, we are thus changing socio-cultural norms at the highest level and reframing the way the community at large understands both the epidemic of sexual violence and the responsibility everyone holds in preventing it.
This guide provides a table of common questions and suggested framing for issues of sexual violence.
