This capacity assessment is offered as a resource to support organizations and institutions as you work to establish or bolster prevention programs AND incorporate prevention throughout your organization.
Comprehensive Prevention exists when everyone is finding their role in ending violence and abuse, and collaborating intentionally and passively in this shared goal. Within an organization prevention exists and impacts every single level and activity of the organization, from ensuring people have safe, trauma-informed places to tell their stories, to creating opportunities to heal, to facilitating education, to ensuring policies are in place for staff, volunteers, and those served by the organization to mitigate risk factors for violence and abuse and promote factors that make people healthier and safer.
Prevention gives us hope; it allows us to work towards something. It promotes sustainability of our teams and our programming. It is necessary to not only what we do, but how we do it.
This resource provides five tools that can be used as a starting place for organizations to figure out what comprehensive prevention can look like and mean for your organization and your team. Each tool can be used on its own, or multiple/all tools can be used together to add more depth and clarity around opportunities for prevention for your organization. Each tool offers a different lens and focus for change. Each one can provide meaningful insight into steps your organization can take to more effectively prevent violence and abuse.
