Mission

To facilitate and support a collaborative, victim-centered approach to the prevention of and response to adolescent and adult sexual violence.

Beliefs

  1. A society free of sexual violence is a basic human right.
  2. All people are affected by, and must work to end, sexual violence.
  3. Sexual violence is the result of sexism and other forms of oppression and can be prevented.
  4. Offenders choose to commit sexual violence and should be held responsible for that choice.
  5. Sexual violence is never the survivor’s fault.
  6. All victims of sexual violence deserve equal access to justice.
  7. All victims of sexual violence deserve a response that is respectful, supportive and victim-driven.
  8. Strategies of sexual violence prevention and response must be comprehensive and socio-culturally appropriate.
  9. Strategies of sexual violence prevention and response must be based on evidence or testable theories and must incorporate evaluation.

Goals

  1. Provide leadership to improve the prevention of and response to sexual violence.
  2. Identify and promote Best Practices and Promising Practices in support of effective sexual violence intervention, prevention and response efforts.
  3. Ensure the Task Force’s internal organization and work processes establish and maintain (a) clear responsibilities and expectations for the Board of Directors and all committees; (b) adequate communication and information sharing across committees; and (c) opportunities for cross-committee
    work and for Task Force member service apart from committee work.
  4. Ensure clear responsibilities for each Task Force staff member and provide maximum opportunities for each staff member’s professional development.
  5. Ensure stable and adequate Task Force funding to achieve Task Force goals.

History

The SATF was formed in 1999 by Attorney General Hardy Myers at the request of a group of advocates and multidisciplinary responders in order to organize statewide efforts to address adolescent and adult sexual assault in Oregon. The SATF incorporated into a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-government organization in 2003.
