SATF membership is divided into two categories:
- Appointed Task Force Members
- Committee Members
The SATF has fifty-one Appointed Task Force Members who are approved by the Steering Committee and appointed by the Attorney General. Twelve of these members fill agency-specific slots; their respective organizations choose a representative for appointment. All other slots are open for application.
Appointed Task Force Members vote on SATF policy changes, serve a two-year term and participate on a committee.
Committee members are approved by the committee to which they are applying and the Steering Committee and are appointed by the Attorney General. Committee members serve a two-year term. Committee Members do not have voting privileges on the SATF.
