Regional SANE Trainings

The 40-hour didactic training includes information on how to:

• obtain a relevant medical history from a sexual assault patient;
• conduct a physical examination specific to the medical history;
• document injury using photography, bodygrams and charting;
• collect and preserve evidence;
• use the OSP (Oregon State Police) Crime Lab Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence (SAFE) Kit;
• provide the victim with prophylactic medications and/or emergency contraception for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and pregnancy;
• treat and/or refer the victim for medical treatment; and
• work as part of a victim-centered and multidisciplinary response to the sexually assaulted victim/patient.

SANE Technical Assistance

SANE Certification and Recertification

It is the priority of the Task Force to not only train SANE nurses but to support them in their certification or recertification process. Please contact SANE Program Coordinator, June Harms here or at 503.990.6541, for questions about the steps needed for certification and recertification.
